What We Do

New Moon Gardens specializes in detail-oriented garden design and installation.  We are always mindful of our client's personal relationship with their garden and strive to tailor our designs to reflect the personal tastes, affordability and manageability of our patrons.

Design

The process begins with an initial consultation with David McMullin. At this first meeting, the client will introduce both themselves and their garden to David and spend some time talking about general wants, needs and limitations.  David gathers his first impressions from this meeting and begins the process of designing a new garden, which may be as simple as making a few verbal suggestions, or as complicated as producing a detailed drawing.  David is not a landscape architect, but rather a creative, hands-on designer, with an educational background in art and a history of apprenticeship in the horticultural field.  David's gardens tent to have an eye toward detail and a logical, well-thought-out basic structure, and can draw from many influences ranging from formal Italianate gardens to flowery cottage gardens to the subtleties and grace of Asian design - all translated specifically for our lives, tastes and climate.

The selection of new plants is one of David's particular strengths.  His philosophy on plant selection is that every plant must be exactly suited for the site in which it is being planted, without the need for excessive pruning, spraying, watering or nurturing.  He also believes in using a large and diverse palette of plants in order to furnish the garden with bountiful color, luscious foliage textures and repeated seasons of interest.  When the initial garden design is concluded, the details are finalized and the installation process begins.

Installation

Our installation team is thorough and efficient, always striving to be pleasant and create a confident, relaxing atmosphere to make our clients feel as comfortable as possible during the disruption of their personal space.

We are very fortunate to have Jill Henley as our Project Manager.  Her attention to detail, organizational skills and horticultural experience have proven to be a huge asset to our little company.  She is generous, thoughtful and well-liked by her clients and crew.

Maintenance

To compliment our installation service and insure that a garden is nurtured and developed to its greatest potential, we offer a hands-on, seasonal maintenance service.  This does not include the traditional "mow and blow" responsibilities common to our industry, but rather a detailed, knowledgeable gardening service aimed at keeping a garden in the peak of its performance and making the kinds of minute aesthetic and cultural alterations that are the strength of any good garden.  We are available seasonally or for contract on a yearly basis, depending on the needs of your garden

Note

In our 15 years of creating gardens in Atlanta, we have had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented craftspeople in our area.  While we have chosen to limit the scope of our installation to light hardscaping and planting, we can comprehensively oversee any large scaple project.  On projects that require the abilities of other skilled professionals, such as stonemasons, ironworkers, pool or pond installers, and irrigators, we are pleased to form collaborations or associations that will best benefit our clients.
